🌈 Flight of Butterflies Takes Flight at Fernbank This Spring

A Larger‑Than‑Life Outdoor Art Adventure Saturday, March 14th to Sunday, June 7th

Families are invited to step into a world of color, imagination, and transformation as Flight of Butterflies flutters into Fernbank Museum’s WildWoods beginning March 14. This enchanting outdoor exhibit fills the forest paths with 25 towering butterfly sculptures, each standing more than seven feet tall and bursting with creativity, meaning, and natural beauty.

Designed to celebrate the magic of metamorphosis and the importance of butterfly conservation, these sculptures transform WildWoods into a kaleidoscope of art and nature. Every piece reflects the artist’s personal connection to the natural world, encouraging visitors of all ages to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the wonder that lives in every wingbeat.

🦋 Art Inspired by Nature’s Most Iconic Butterflies

Each sculpture draws inspiration from beloved species, including the eastern tiger swallowtail and the regal fritillary, highlighting both familiar and threatened butterflies found across North America.

The result is a vibrant outdoor gallery where:

  • 25 uniquely designed butterflies rise above the forest floor
  • Diverse artistic styles highlight storytelling, inclusion, and cultural perspectives
  • Nature and creativity blend seamlessly, reminding visitors that every creature has a story
  • A giant Monarch wing photo op invites families to step inside the art for a magical memory

These sculptures do not just decorate the landscape. They spark curiosity, celebrate biodiversity, and inspire future champions of nature.

🌿 A Walk Through WildWoods Like Never Before

As families find their family fun and wander the winding paths of WildWoods, each butterfly becomes a moment of discovery. Kids can marvel at the size and colors, adults can appreciate the craftsmanship and symbolism, and everyone can enjoy the peaceful, immersive setting of Fernbank’s outdoor forest experience.

This exhibit is locally supported by Orkin and The Gary W. Rollins Foundation, helping bring this imaginative journey to Atlanta families.
