This August, Academy Theatre in Hapeville dares audiences to confront the human cost of survival in Skeleton Crew, a fierce and poetic drama by Dominique Morisseau produced in partnership with Impact Theatre Atlanta.
Set against the backdrop of Detroit’s 2008 recession, Skeleton Crew unfolds within the fragile walls of the city’s last exporting auto plant. Inside, a tightly knit group of co-workers fights to hold onto their livelihoods and each other as rumors of foreclosure loom like storm clouds. But as financial pressures mount and trust gets tested, what begins as a story of camaraderie evolves into a riveting exploration of blurred boundaries: between blue-collar and white-collar, loyalty and betrayal, survival and sacrifice.
This production pulls no punches. With sharp language and unflinching truth, Skeleton Crew is unapologetically adult, recommended for mature audiences who can handle the grit and raw emotion which pour from the stage.
From shifting power dynamics to moral dilemmas born in the break room, Morisseau’s play does not just ask how far they will go. It dares viewers to ask themselves the same.
Catch it at the Academy Theatre August 7th through the 24th. It's more than a night of drama; it is a mirror to the soul of working America.
Note: This production contains adult language and mature themes. Viewer discretion is advised.
